Who Can Correct Their Income Tax Return Online?
Did you spot an omission or mistake after receiving your tax notice?
The online correction service on impots.gouv.fr allows you to amend the information you originally submitted in spring 2025 for your 2024 income tax return.

The service is available from July 30 to December 3, 2025 inclusive.

Access is reserved for taxpayers who filed their return online through impots.gouv.fr or via the official mobile app.
-
Taxpayers benefiting from the automatic return system may also make corrections.
How to Correct Your Income Tax Return Online?
To update your tax return online, follow these steps:

Have your tax ID number and password ready.

Log into your personal space on impots.gouv.fr from a computer.

Click on “Access the online correction”.

Make the necessary changes, confirm, and validate. A new tax notice will be issued (details explained below).
Information That Cannot Be Changed Online
The following items cannot be modified via the online correction tool:

Family situation (marriage, PACS, separation, divorce, death)

Civil status information
-
Mailing address if correction is requested by a guardian (tutorship or curatorship)

Tax residence address as of 01/05/2025

Address of a dependent student

Designation of a trusted third party
To update these, you must use your secure messaging system within your personal space:
“Write” > “Claim/Dispute/Income Tax”, then follow the instructions.
Information That Can Be Corrected Online
The following can be amended directly:

Declared income and deductible expenses
-
Items used for calculating tax reductions and credits
-
Real estate wealth tax (IFI) information
Simply adjust the amounts entered and tick or untick the relevant boxes.
Correcting a Return: What Are the Consequences?
After submitting your amended declaration:

You will receive a confirmation email.
-
The tax administration may request additional details and may reject the correction if necessary.

Once processed, your tax will be recalculated.
Outcomes of a Correction

If the correction reduces your tax: and you have already paid the balance, you will be reimbursed within a few days after the new notice is issued.

If the correction increases your tax: the updated notice will show the new amount due along with a payment deadline.
⚠️ Note: After the correction period ends, any changes must be submitted as a claim to the Directorate-General of Public Finances (DGFiP).
What If You Filed a Paper Return?
Before the Filing Deadline
Taxpayers who filed a paper return cannot use the online correction service.
If you need to make changes:

Send a corrected paper return to your local tax office before the filing deadline.

The form must include all sections, even those unchanged.

Clearly write on the first page: “CORRECTED RETURN – CANCELS AND REPLACES”.
After the Filing Deadline and Receipt of Your Tax Notice
You may still file a claim up to December 31 of the second year following the recovery date shown on your tax notice.
You can submit your claim:

Online: through your secure messaging system in your personal space:
“Write” > “Claim/Dispute/Income Tax”, then follow the steps. -
By post: send a signed letter including your full name, address, tax ID number, the type of tax concerned, the reason for your claim, and attach all relevant supporting documents to your local tax office.

In person: by visiting your local personal tax office (SIP) directly.
