Need to Fix Your 2025 Tax Return? Here’s How to Correct It

If you made a mistake or forgot to declare part of your income on your 2025 French tax return, don’t worry—you still have time to make corrections. Whether you filed online or by paper, options are available to amend your declaration.

If You Declared Online

The online income tax filing portal remains open until the end of July 2025. This means you can still modify your declaration via your Personal Account on impots.gouv.fr, including from the official mobile app.

⚠️ Important: If you file a new declaration now instead of simply correcting your original one, it could be treated as a late submission and trigger a penalty, since the official filing deadlines have passed.

After Receiving Your Tax Notice

Your 2025 tax notice will be made available in your online space in late July or early August. If you notice any errors in the notice, an online correction tool will be accessible via your account under the “Correct my return online” section.

  • This correction window runs from 30 July to 3 December 2025.

  • You can revise figures, check or uncheck boxes, and validate your changes.

  • Once submitted, you’ll receive an email confirmation.

  • A new tax notice will be issued, and your withholding tax rate will be updated if needed.

After the Correction Period Closes

If you miss the online correction deadline, you’ll need to submit a formal complaint (réclamation) through your online account or by mail. This must be done within legally defined timeframes.

You can check these deadlines on the official tax dispute guide.

What You Can’t Change Online

Certain personal details cannot be updated via the online correction tool. For example:

  • Marital status changes (marriage, divorce, civil union changes, death)

  • Civil status updates

  • Main or student address changes

  • Bank account information for refunds (RIB updates)

These must be handled separately through your tax office.

If You Filed by Paper

If you submitted a paper tax return, corrections must be made after you receive your tax notice. You can:

  • File a complaint online or by post,

  • Include the following details:

    • Full name and address

    • Tax ID number

    • Signature

    • Reference to the tax year and issue

    • Explanation of the error with supporting documents

Reminder: The Right to Make Mistakes

French law grants you the right to rectify errors made in good faith. If you identify a mistake in your tax return, you can usually correct it without penalty—provided it’s done within the authorized timeframe.
