Protection of Business Leaders’ Home Address Information: New Decree 2025-840
On August 22, 2025, the French government adopted Decree No. 2025-840, introducing new measures to protect the personal home address of company directors and partners with unlimited liability. This reform responds to growing concerns about privacy and data security in business administration.
What Does the Decree Change?
1. Confidentiality Requests for Home Addresses
Company directors and partners can now request confidentiality for their personal home address.
-
The procedure must be carried out via the INPI single window.
2. Redacted Corporate Documents
When a legal act or corporate document (e.g., articles of association) includes a personal address, the registrar will now publish a redacted version of the document instead of the original, ensuring sensitive data is hidden from public view.
3. Restricted Access to Authorities Only
Even with this confidentiality measure, certain public authorities and organizations will retain access to personal address information, strictly for the performance of their official duties.
4. Effective Date
The decree comes into force on August 25, 2025.
Why This Matters for Business Leaders
This legal development is a significant step in protecting entrepreneurs, company directors, and partners from potential misuse of their private data. By shielding home addresses from public registers, it reduces exposure to risks such as harassment, identity theft, and unwanted solicitations.
