Income Tax Assessment Notice
/in Blog /by escecYour Income Tax Assessment Notice serves as official proof of the income you have declared to the tax authorities. This document is available through your online Public Finance account.
What Is the Purpose of an Income Tax Assessment Notice?
Individuals who are liable for income tax must submit an annual declaration reporting all taxable income to the tax administration.
Once your tax return has been processed, the Income Tax Assessment Notice confirms the income amounts you reported and provides details of your tax situation.
After reviewing tax returns, the French tax authorities establish official tax rolls that identify taxpayers who are liable for income tax as well as those who are exempt. These tax rolls serve as the legal basis for collecting taxes from individuals who owe them.
Each taxpayer’s assessment notice is an extract from these official records.
The notice is frequently required when completing administrative procedures with public or private organizations, such as family benefit agencies, government offices, banks, or other institutions.
As an alternative, taxpayers may also provide their Income Tax Filing Status Certificate (ASDIR), which becomes available immediately after completing an online tax return.
What Information Is Included in the Assessment Notice?
The Income Tax Assessment Notice generally contains the following details:
- All income declared to the tax authorities.
- The number of family quotient shares used in the tax calculation.
- Your reference taxable income (Revenu Fiscal de Référence).
- The date the tax assessment is issued and the payment deadline.
- The total amount of income tax calculated.
- A breakdown showing any remaining balance due or any refund owed after considering withholding tax payments, additional withholding adjustments, and monthly or quarterly advance payments made on directly received income.
- A payment schedule when additional tax remains payable. A single payment is generally scheduled for balances of €300 or less, while larger balances may be divided into several installments.
- Contact information for the tax office responsible for managing your file.
When Is the Income Tax Assessment Notice Available?
You will receive an email notification as soon as your assessment notice is uploaded to your online Public Finance account.
For most taxpayers, income tax notices become available online between late July and early August.
Beginning in 2026, tax assessment notices are provided exclusively through your online Public Finance account on the official tax website or via the mobile tax application.
Paper copies are only sent by mail if specifically requested before 15 June 2026 through your online account.

Online Verification Service for Tax Notices
An online verification service is available to simplify administrative procedures when organizations request a copy of your tax notice.
Entities such as family allowance offices, local authorities, prefectures, and other institutions can use this service to verify that the assessment notice you provide reflects your most recent tax situation.
The service is publicly accessible and does not require prior authorization.
Verification can be performed using only:
- Your tax identification number.
- The reference number shown on the assessment notice.
Organizations may also verify the authenticity of the document by scanning the 2D-DOC barcode displayed on the first page.
The verification service can be used with any of the following documents:
- An Income Tax Filing Status Certificate (ASDIR) generated after filing an online tax return or downloaded from your Public Finance account.
- An Income Tax Assessment Notice downloaded from your online account or received by post.
- A photocopy of either the ASDIR or the Income Tax Assessment Notice.
